At the end of a long idyllic summer afternoon spent lounging on Barceloneta beach, a round of thirst-quenching cocktails at Zahara will be the ideal way to draw the sunbathing to a close and segue into a glamourous night out in Barcelona. This cocktail bar may be a tad too small to spend the whole night in, but with its central location by the beach, it's the perfect place to meet up with friends and get your evening off to a flyer, especially if you're heading for the popular Port Olympic area where many of the more mainstream bars and clubs are found. It's also just a few doors down from the local police station where recently arrived immigrants should go to register themselves; and after an exasperating morning of interminable queueing, form filling and arguing with bureaucratic jobsworths in your best Spanish, you'll certainly be in the mood for a very stiff drink. The clientele is a good mix of English-speaking tourists and Spanish locals and often there are fun pub crawls for tourists (organised by a 3rd party) which emanate from this bar. One interesting and unusual feature of Zahara is that they also provide a travelling cocktail catering service (see their website for details). With a funky interior and a breezy terrace overlooking the harbour, Zahara is equally well suited to chilled afternoons and hedonistic nights.
